    5 different mint marks?

  • dbldie55dbldie55 Posts: 7,717 ✭✭✭✭✭

So, the "CC" and "O" privy mark examples on May 24, the D and S on June 1 and the "no mint mark" Morgan and only Peace on June 7.

I am in, I bet they charge their $75 an ounce for silver like the rest of the sets.

I'll try to get the Peace Unc and Proof versions. Don't really care about the Morgans.

Lordy, Lordy, these will cause some to bleed and weep and gnash the teeth over the absence of grit and luck!

And these two issues epitomize the dichotomy of beauty and the beast.
I know I will be rooting (with my CC) for the beauty.

Just going to do one of each. Likely will try for the CC privy, but I’m only going to get one Morgan.

Really hoping for unlimited Mintage and or pre orders. Mint to demand on these. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏼

Does anyone know if the Unc. coins may have a real circulation strike finish, as opposed to the dull drab semi-frosty look of modern commemoratives?

No pictures on the mint's website. It will be interesting to see what they look like. They won't look like the real thing - I guarantee!

I agree. I was disappointed when I saw that. No Carson City coins, either.

would love it if they did just an open 24 hr order period and then minted to demand

with that being about as good a chance as me scoring 1 of each of these issues, whaddya think would be a good mintage limit on these? 100,000? certainly hope it's at least 50,000, but even then it'll be a shark fest 🪙🦈

My understanding is S and D marks will be normal but O and CC will be privy marks in the traditional spots. I can’t tell from the mock-ups the mint provided earlier if the Morgan will be the 1921 low relief version or the proper 1878 style version?

And I’ll be disappointed if the finish doesn’t resemble the flashy cartwheels of old. The 2009 UHR was so disappointing to me because it lacked the surface look of the original.

  • Can't wait for more information. These will pair nicely with the rest of my Morgans and Peace Dollars.

At 100,000 or less, I think you would be looking at an immediate sell out.

This is an interesting issue. 100,000 for a commemorative tends to be high. On the other hand, I would expect demand for these (depending on price) to be closer to silver eagle territory which means 300,000 to 500,000

As always, where's the sweet spot? If they mint 100,000 or fewer, it is going to be a flipping frenzy and the coin will likely be worth the $100 price tag. If they mint 300,000 and up, there will be limited flip potential and not an immediate sell out (depending on HHL), but they likely aren't worth the $100 price tag.

And if the coins are in that $70 to $100 window, the price for the whole set starts to become expensive.

    With the way it’s scheduled...

    I’d go with 75k for each cc, o, s and d

I’d go with 100k for Philadelphia and Peace.

    That’s 500k in Total...

Whatever the mintage, 10% will be pre-bought by dealers in the mint’s program most likely. If not then it’ll be the usual cadre of people buying for a dealer for instant small profit. Expect lots of them to show up on TV.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well, I will be in for a couple of them... The CC Morgan...maybe the O Morgan... The HR Peace... Probably will not get them in the feeding frenzy... worth a try anyway. Cheers, RickO

Nah, the big dealers will be pre-selling them with all the commitments from the general public to flip to them immediately.

If you want to take my statement literally. Sure, someone probably didn't. Someone also probably didn't buy it because they died that week. I'm sure someone didn't buy it because they had gender reassignment surgery coming up and they had to save the money.

The statement was meant to be general. The demand for the V75 silver and gold eagles was huge. So, GENERALLY SPEAKING, people didn't mind the Privy mark.

If you want to talk about single individuals instead of generalization, people actually bought the V75 silver eagles ONLY BECAUSE OF THE PRIVY MARK!!!

Without knowledge on the mintage, there's little point in undertaking such a venture. Suppose they issue them with unlimited mintage? They are then unflippable for all but the snake oil selling scoundrels out there.

    JM,
Swampboy’s original post was expressing his personal preference, as was mine. Your response to my post regarding public demand was actually irrelevant. Public demand has nothing to do with my disappointment nor Swampboy’s preference. So Swampboy is just bringing the conversation back to the intent of his original post : his personal preference. Everything doesn’t always have to revolve around your perspective, nor does every post necessitate an argument.
