Are the rarity levels still valid today: Resplandores Cap and Rays book?

I just received the book today I know it is over 20 years old but would like to ask the more veteran 8 Reales collectors if the rarity scale in the book still applies to 2021? Or have they noticed any changes?

Seems that they generally still apply .

The authors took years to write their book
and they know what they published to be true because of their research.

You can study PCGS and NGC pops

I have zero doubts about their credibility just curious since it was written in 1997. I just thought maybe some changes that vets like yourself may have input on. But if you tell me they are still relevant then I trust you.

  • I cannot imagine a 2nd edition coming out anytime soon hence my question.

There should be two looming questions...

    Have rarity levels changed?

Followed by... Have condition rarity levels changed?

Answers to these two questions will remain a work in progress as more of the surviving population of this series is graded.

I suspect that over time, attractive examples graded 65 and higher will fare the best in terms of interest and value.

One other aspect to consider... some dates simply do not exist in GEM or even in MS... Quality for the grade matters and should never be overlooked

  • I will be looking to buy coin that are very scarce and rarer only for this series. My main focus will be cobs, 1732 till about 1824 and the 1 Peso large silver coins with the balance not the cap and rays. This will keep me busy for a long long time.

I agree but I cannot afford to play that game with top pop graded coins way to expensive I rather own more coins in lower grades.
