A friend of mine asked about the unusual look to the "9" on this '34 Dime. I assumed it was just stray piece of metal, but what's your take?

Interesting... Looks to be more than a die polish line. Looks as if there could be minor doubling at the top of 93.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Looks like most of you are scratching your heads also. LOL

Looks like a small die scratch/gouge in the 9. Minor and rather common, no premium.
I agree with @ifthevamzarockin .... Die scratch....Good catch though....and the picture is excellent. Cheers, RickO
There may be a few collectors of varieties that think it is special but most collectors will just give it a shrug of the shoulders.
IMHOP is is a die chip. Good job presenting it.
Nice pics.

Take a good picture and put it on eBay maybe somebody will care
A good description and a good picture with uniqueness to any coin will sell on eBay so you could get a premium for that if you are set it up right I don’t know how much more but at least it’s worth a shot
Best place to buy !

Yep. Die scratch.
Would like to see entire dime.
Sorry these aren't better, but it's not my coin and the photo's were sent to me.

A relatively minor die polish mark. Fairly common on Mercury Dimes.
That said, the close up shot is magnificent. Please ask your friend what he used.
