That is a really nice dime pictured.... Was it restored? Or did the box remain sealed enough to protect the contents? Cheers, RickO

Only one 56 s dime pulled from the bag out of 4,000 dimes... And this one graded ms65 after spending 157 years in the ocean. WOW !!!
The tied up bag was found in the purser's safe, so very little water circulated for those 157 years. It was part of the "working capital" of the ship, used to pay the crew and such.
Some passenger must have bought something on-board or bought passage or similar with a very fresh from the mint dime.

Where the heck are the S.S. Central America half dimes?? I know some were listed as recovered.

_I saw the obverse first and assumed it was an 1856 New Orleans Mint or a Philadelphia Small-Date in high-grade, not uncommon among these dimes. I flipped it over expecting to see either no mint mark or an O. _
I wouldn't expect on "O" on the reverse either. A mint state 1856-0 dime is a darn scarce coin too. Philly yes....O or S....no.
