Just think what the Mick would be worth in todays market!! Based on what these other yahoo's are getting like what's his name in Philly......Mickey should get about 75M a year!

Adjusted for inflation that's about $487K. Damn you reserve clause!!
And they would be very happy making that.
Let's be honest, it's not like most professional athletes are in the top tier of intelligence and if they couldn't earn money at their given sport, would become wealthy in business.
If Mantle couldn't hit a baseball, he'd have probably spent his life as a miner in Oklahoma like his father. I respect miners a lot, tough work and I applaud them for doing it as I do every tough blue collar job. However no company is paying a miner 487k a year.
Oh yes indeed, at one point before Mickey made the big leagues he was in a slump in the minors and called his father saying he didn't think he had what it takes in baseball. So his dad comes over, angrily starts packing Mickey's things saying that "I thought I raised a man" and that if Mickey didn't have any more guts than that then he had nothing else to go back to than work in the coal mines.
Wow, imagine how very differently baseball history and especially baseball card history would've played out had Mantle not stuck it out.

Fifty million people are not paying to see a miner, mine. The numbers are staggering and I strongly object to the use of tax dollars to build and refurbish professional venues, but beyond that, if your talent commands a $40,000,000 payday, so be it.
