    Nice.

I do, but only to flip later. If I can make even $10, I'll usually I'll bite. I know what works on eBay, and what doesn't.

I do go slumming at times for something cheap when I have eBucks to spend, but the deal is only good if I like the coin.

From time to time... When I lived out West and went to coin shows... sometimes a deal would just pop out.... especially when doing the early bird route....A nice coin at a good price... my kind of cherry pick... ;) Cheers, RickO

Yes I was offered 3 VG-XF silver 1500s coin for 10$ each. I jumped on that very quickly.

  • bronzematbronzemat Posts: 2,672 ✭✭✭✭✭

I do quite often. Most of the time it's with ancients since some can go unnoticed & I can scoop up $100+ coins for many times at little as $30-$50.

As others have replied, I tend to flip them soon after. But some I have kept since I needed them.

This is a real event? This actually happens? A coin that someone hasn't picked every molecule of meat off the bone and then dug into the marrow? I am skeptical. :)

More likely if it's a common coin that's tough to find extra nice; the 17-S reverse being but one example.

I like the '40's 'S' Walkers with decent strikes in higher grades. Not really expensive, but really hard to find.I have a few duplicates of each that I probably sell or trade down the road for some of the earlier dates and mm's.

    Yes, lots of times.

  • lkeneficlkenefic Posts: 8,823 ✭✭✭✭✭

I used to all the time... more recently I've become hyper focused on my type set and I'm only "looking" for specific coins. So, if a smokin' deal is there on a coin I already have, I might not see it because I have blinders on and a fixed budget. Perhaps this approach segregates the dealers from the dabblers from the collectors...

There are many collectors who not only want to complete their set in their grade but also want to have specific holders so I assume that’s the point behind it perhaps they graded a few too many

Let's see a show of hands that have not. I look primarily at shows and I will buy a coin I like for what I think it is or should be.

Yes. Someone erroneously listed a 1942 PF65 RD CAMEO wheat cent on eBay for $199. I bought it and almost immediately flipped it for a few hundred more.

I bought this in an ANACS 45 OH a few years ago on the very cheap and recently sold it for a nice profit.

Probably should have said that dealers do not need to respond to this question.

But as a collector, I don't typically buy something I don't need (well want since I don't really "need" any rare coins).
