Fraudulent ebay account purchase

derrybderryb Posts: 37,556 ✭✭✭✭✭

Made a $1700 sale to ebay ID ledlight8. Shortly thereafter notified by paypal the purchase was unauthorized use of a credit card. Fortunately I had not yet shipped. Might wanna consider adding ledlight8 to your blocked bidder list.

Mailing address was 1691 Colvard Farms Rd., Durham NC 27713.

Paypal provides an awesome service for a small fee.

I've had that happen to me after I shipped and I was covered.

No pain at all! Paypal called me and hoped I hadn't shipped and asked if I could recover the shipment. If they had checked the tracking they would have seen it was far away from me by then!

Most likely the credit card holder got an alert and notified paypal, who quickly notified me.

one of the advantages of using snail pace registered mail is that there is plenty of time to have it intercepted by USPS while en route.

If they are able to intercept it; have had that fail in one lower risk case.

Zillow says that address is a $3,000,000 6000+ sq ft house on 22 acres. Dad fed up with kid stealing his credit card?

The ebay account is likely legit, but someone else is using his credit card and probably redirecting purchases to a different address. Always a good idea to mark shipments "do not forward" since PP will not honor a seller claim if it doesn't show delivery to the PP address.

I would suggest removing the eBay ID and handle it by PM. Twice I have had this issue arise and both times it turned out that it was not an issue. In one case, PayPal mistakenly put a freeze on the account themselves. The second time it was a child on the parent's account. So "fraud" could be the case, but it might also simply overstate the problem.

If you ship to a Paypal verified address and it shows delivered. That is the end of the story. I will say I've never seen a package forwarded. I would think Paypal would step in if it was fraud as you would have no way of knowing.

Thanks for the alert... Though I do not sell on ebay... I do purchase occasionally, so alerts regarding questionable accounts are always helpful...Cheers, RickO

That's why I also posted the shipping address for the fraudulent purchase. ;)
