I have the weekend off, enough points for a free train ticket, and points for a hotel room.
I have no buying agenda, though perhaps a few things to divest of. I'm sure that will not keep me from buying something, but as I'm trying to behave with my budget I'm feeling very virtuous at arranging a cheap trip

My raw coin came in the mail today from last Thursday's World Weekly Auction at Heritage -- pretty impressive shipping time. So I've got my submission together for Friday. Hope to see forum folks noonish to mid-afternoon.

Uh oh. I made it later today but was kind of tired. I bought a book and a jar of pickles so far (and a couple of odds and ends). Too bad I didn't bring my snowshoes for tomorrow...and hopefully the serious looking can start.
Minimal snow, rain by 10 in out part of MD tomorrow.

Had a good show (attended Friday). The crowd was light and had time to talk to a few folks. Finally met @Stork. Also met Zohar. @jgenn and @7jaguars, did either of you make it? I ended up selling a few and bought one. A nice day.

I'll be stopping in a bit to take one more look at a rather large plaque I was eyeballing. Between the books, the jar of pickles, and (if I were to buy it) the dang plaque this will certainly be the HEAVIEST coin show trip ever. I'll be sure to post a review of the pickles once I open them.
So no 'real' additions to my main collecting interests, but my sidebar purchasing is off the chain. On the plus side I did divest of a couple things though (a dupe and a cool coin gathering dust as I never went that route, swapped one type of collectible bullion out for another--Britannia to a Saint). Maybe, just maybe, (if I skip the plaque) I will have broken even. Ish.
Well, I'll update this as a show report...but not much right now. Ended up getting a rather severe cold--woke up Saturday with it and lost all steam. I took some photos, but will have to post later. Just not feeling it right now.
The show seemed rather subdued compared to many I've been to, though I hadn't been to Baltimore in awhile, it will be interesting to hear what the dealers thought. It could have been my cold talking. Most of my buys (a fairly short list) ranged from very to wildly different from my norm.
First off, the pickles are completely delicious!
The only nice Albanian I picked up was something I rather ironically saw on eBay as I was getting a ride to my train
. One of the minors in an ANACS slab that looks to be fairly graded at a 64--nice luster and a year that is particularly challenging. The BIN was nice.
Japanese coins were mostly a bust. I'm starting to back off from the OC driven date runs I've been doing, and mostly looking for fabulous type coins (none purchased) for the modern coins. I did get a nice little error coin from @amwldcoin. It was a better date 10 yen with a bit of a strike through, which was unfortunate as the year made it pricier. Still good though. Otherwise I got two of the smaller rectangular coins. One is older/better quality and the other a more common piece. I also got one of the large, flat, silver, local issues from Akita. I'll get that photo up.
Under the influence of board members (ahem) I went outside the normal zone a bit on two things. Thanks to @Zohar I acquired an ancient that has a super nice eagle that looks to be a pre-cursor to one of the Albanian coins I have. The obverse is outstanding too. That one is tricky to photo due to the depth of field and I don't do focus stacking (I cranked the f-stop though to get more depth). It's gorgeous and I'll post that one when I can.
Now, for whatever insane reason, I tagged along with @EVillageProwler to the CNG table. He just had to show me an admittedly gorgeous Aethelred II penny...so yes I bought it. It is gorgeous and with this I may have to cave and admit to a 'box of 20' for a few of the odds and ends I have. After I bought it and he started looking at a photo of his I started to think he was regretting not buying it himself. I did offer it to him at a mere 5% markup (@Zohar suggested 20%). Seriously though, if he wants it he can get it 'at cost'. I hope not, it's so cool even my non-numismatic husband loved it. Photos definitely pending on that one. Oh, and the next stop was to buy a book. Between books and the pickles I was loaded down coming home...with a congested head to boot.
Otherwise I somehow picked up some Greenland mining tokens ???!!!! Odd story there, I'd bought one randomly a few shows ago. A couple weeks ago I saw another one on ebay and did what I thought was a low offer on a lark, which was accepted. So, 2 makes a collection, and buying 3 more made it a bigger collection. I need an eyeroll emoji.
I also picked up a random Swiss 2Fr just because of the color, and a Very Small and nicely toned Japan 5 sen. Not so much for the date (have it), quality (my other one is a better grade), but because it's small, in plastic, and is colorful. It will be a fun to use as a photographic challenge. I aught to send it to someone like BluCC and get a real shot of it, then see what I can do later.
One other Japanese coin I almost forgot about. @MrEureka had a very nice and uncommon/desirable date 1 yen coin at his table. It's one where PCGS will designate variety but NGC does not and it was in NGC plastic. All I could remember is that it had something to do with the leaf veins. (Which I confirmed by looking at the PCGS pops later--it's definitely a vein thing). The price swing is big and I can remember looking at the descriptor pages in one of the older JNDA catalogs. For the life of me I can't recall the difference, and I went through my old catalogs enough to identify which year of the catalog I need to find the information...which is the one catalog year I can't find at the moment. In any case I found an ugly circulated version with a gin mark at another table and actually bought it--partly to have something in hand when looking up the variety, but also because I've been looking for an interesting right sided gin marked coin for awhile. Hope to find that year's catalog soonish so I can figure out just what the difference is.
I was happy to see Steve and Zohar, plus some quick hellos with other board members ( @pruebas, @Exbrit, @Tootawl, @amwldcoin, the Penny Lady (mostly talked pets) plus several others my cold-congested brain can't remember). Shoot I even sold a few coins which made this a cheap weekend. I know I missing some good bits and some people but this is all I can do right now. All in all, a fun time. Show was a bit light on my favored material so there you go. Other things to buy, and books are always in fashion.

Sorry @Stork got sick. It was raining Friday evening when we went out to dinner. The wet and chilly air plus every coin show is like a big petri dish is a recipe for getting a cold.

Sorry that you got sick. I just got over a cold I got at the last show I attended probably from another dealer 2 tables down from me. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get it from the snotrag wielding dealer across the isle from me. I was cringing the whole time I was at the show hoping I wouldn't bring another cold home with me.

I'm not posting all the coins, but here are my highlights:
From @amwldcoin a struck through 10 yen. Harder find stuff like this in the more modern coinage, and it had to be on the most difficult date of the reeded edge 10 yens...oh well. I think we mutually agreed to having no idea how to price it.
My own pictures of the coin above (in the other post). Who can't relate to having a bad hair day looking at it? Of course I paid retail, but oh well. It's cool. And after influencing me to buy it, the next stop was to buy 'the book' on some of these. Yes, I am backwards. First, buy a coin. Next, buy the book,. Finally, decide if I want more of the coins. Pretty standard SOP for me.
Next up, another Japanese coin. A local issue from Akita, the 4 momme/6bu (ie smaller) version. I've never bought one or even seen that many. It was a bit of a lark, but the price was reasonable. I did show it to Mike Berry at Stephen Album's table who guessed the guy possibly bought it from them . They are roughly made, but once I got home the weight checks out (off by .05, which is pretty good I imagine in something like this), matched my catalogs well, and matched 'sold' items. Stuff I should look at before buying, but oh well. Again, SOP for me.
And finally, for my Albanian set, sort of. Though I did get an Albanian coin over the weekend (a BIN on eBay Thursday that was delivered Saturday), this was my show purchase. Obviously not Albanian, but right now I'm looking for the Ancients that could have been the inspiration to the Italian mint that produced these. An eagle looking left...and how cool is the detail here? I don't have the focus stacking technique so I compensated using the f-stop setting, which affected the lighting, but overall I'm okay with it.
