I use Card Saver 1's for any card I think deserves to be permanently protected. They stack great and you can put them on their sides in boxes too. If you want to sell the card it is easy to ship it protected and if you plan to grade them you are just sending them to a different location. A must have for any collector in my opinion.

Card saver 1’s for subbing, mag cases for higher end, toploaders for mid range and just penny sleeves for commons in boxes.

I hate to be the stickler but I’ve always felt uncomfortable using CS’s for high end stuff since some of them have a natural bow/bend. I always think it’ll result in molding the card with the same bend.

CS1's tend to be more difficult to store. They also are more fragile and likely to bend where as top loaders are more solid. I go for top loaders.

If you put a prone to chipping border in a penny sleeve and top loader, I guarantee you will see wear on the tips and edges with just normal storage; that is if you can get it into both without damaging a corner. I wouldn't personally ever use them, but 90% of the cards I store are going to be holdered anyway so it is not long term storage either way and PSA only accepts card saver 1's. I don't think the industry standard would be card saver 1's if they were literally bending cards while storing because PSA rejects cards with any abnormal flattening and also downgrades cards for creases or bends. Because PSA tends to hold cards for 3-4 months before release from grading, I think the storage aspect of card saver 1's is put to rest since they were likely in a box or on a shelf sitting for the duration until grading day and enough cards sitting for months become PSA 10's or other high grades.

I want my card IMMOBILIZED. If a CS1 scoots off my desk, nothing is going to happen to the card. In transit via mail? Nothing going to happen to the card. I've seen more cards shoot out of top loaders (even in penny sleeves) than I care to remember.

I wouldn't use top loaders if they were free.

they are mostly long term storage for my kid. they are all the extras left over from when I bust wax, some are complete or nearly complete sets including a lot of chrome stock cards that scuff and scratch easily. never know what might be worth something one day. don't want them to end up like my commons from when I was a kid, completely beat up and bricked messes.

I bet people that stored Trout updates or Bowman Chrome Judges are kicking themselves years later when they went back through their commons boxes only to find they were indented, dinged or their chrome prospect cards were all scuffed up from non sleeved storage in bulk boxes.

I use everything. Complete sets in binders and pages. Anything with a serial, auto, game used, etc, in a penny sleeve and toploader. A lot of the thicker cards you don't want to force into a CS1 anyway. Anything that I might send in for grading in a CS1. Anything else that is shiny or might be worth more than a common goes in a penny sleeve in a box.

Lately I've been taking better care of my modern "commons." I usually stash my older unopened purchases but rip my new purchases (2017 & 2018). For stuff like Chrome or Prizm that has a sensitive surface I have been putting every rookie in a penny sleeve and then clumping them in team bags before I store them in my monster boxes. I've noticed that just by sifting through a stack of cards with those shiny surfaces can sometimes leave a light scratch on the surface, hence, the penny sleeve for the rookies.
