My banknotes have been in process for over 3 months. As I understand it, Club submissions are supposed to turn around in 40 days. So, is PCGS really backed up due to volume?

It got me thinking....what HAS been the trend in U.S. currency/bill prices the last 15 years or so since the Great Financial Crisis of 2008-09 ? I know for coins we had a major bear market as evidenced by the PCGS 3000 Index. Went down sharply into 2020 and since have reversed.

Is there a price index for currency bills ? Does anybody know how the U.S. currency market has done over the last 15 years ? Prices up, down, or flattish ?

Based on my admittedly beginner level of experience and not someone who has access to The Greensheet or sees dealer prices frequently....it appears that except for certain "trophy" bills that most bills in the $500 - $15,000 range are FLAT or even DOWN the last few years, maybe going back 10-12 years. I noticed in the HA auctions that bills coming up for re-sale for the first time in a decade or bills similar to one which set the high-water mark...are going for LESS or at most about the same price.

Unlike coins (which can rise up with PM prices providing a floor) I didn't see any evidence of a bull market, outside of that nice rise in Large Denomination Currency lower-grade bills that we saw in 2020-22 by new buyers during Covid.

Any thoughts from the veterans out there ?

We'll need to change several laws if this is going to happen.

Yes, there's the prohibition of a living person appearing on our currency-that would need to be changed. But why was this law created back in the 1860s in the first place. It was the public outrage of the Sec of the Treasury daring to put his own image on a 50 cent note. George Washington was the first President to offer an opinion on the idea of the head of state depicted on a coin. He prohibited it. That was what European kings did- not what the president of a democracy should do. Washington set this precedent back in the late 1700s. That's the symbolic significance of such a change.

Nobody (that I've heard) has mentioned the fact that this denomination would need to be authorized by law. We, along with other nations, decided to eliminate high denomination banknotes in order to combat money laundering. Would a new high denomination facilitate it?

Anyone else have some insights or thoughts or comments on mine?

Most of them are worn with obvious circulation...probably looking at grades of Good to Fine with numbers of 10-25.

But I have about 2 dozen bills that look like they have sharp/razor-sharp corners....good/excellent paper front-and-back...and no obvious creases/folds/wrinkles (under white light; what an UV would say I don't know ). They look like they could get grades in the 60's...maybe 65 and even higher....anyway, I figure it wouldn't break-the-bank to submit the Top 20/25 bills as I inherited them directly, from a family member's estate, etc. Would be interested in seeing if my grade is anywhere near the actual ones. Plus, they'd be securely protected going forward.

I'm thinking of submitting them to see what the Top Bills would get and test out my grading skills. I have never submitted currency or coins for grading. What would I be looking at if I submitted them directly myself cost-wise ? Or should I submit them through a currency dealer who is reputable ?

Wellston is in St Louis County which has been separated from the City since the 1800s but is part of the StL metro area. The County hosts 6 banks of issue, 3 in Clayton, and one each in Maplewood, Manchester, and Luxemburg. Manchester is of course the "rare" one, but now a little less so after 3 #1 RSs remerged a few years ago.

Now if I could just find upgrades for my type 2s which also seem elusive. What fun.

I have enjoyed examining the reverse designs on the various bills in this set, from the kaleidoscopic engraving of the 1886 $1 Martha Washington reverse to the elegant 1923 $1 Black Eagle / Cogwheel reverse. I even like the reverse of the so-called "Funny Back" notes.

All beautiful bills! And then you get to 1935...

Disembodied eyes. Pyramids. "NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM / New Order of the Ages". "ANNUIT COEPTIS / He favors our undertaking".

I'd imagine that folks in 1935 wondered WTH was going on with this reverse design, especially given that all our other circulating currency featured architecture. I'd love to read some 'letters to the editor' from folks back then to see what they thought of all these design elements, as many probably thought that they were occult or pagan symbols.

Anyway, we've been stuck on this design for over 90 years, and I suppose that we'll have it until someone finally pulls the plug on the whole $1 series. Interestingly, Wikipedia says this about potential redesigns:

In response to various requests to redesign the $1 bill to include (among others) the Preamble, Bill of Rights, and list of Articles of the United States Constitution, recent budgets passed by Congress have included provisions to prevent the Treasury Department from spending any of its funds to redesign the $1 bill, since the potential cost impact of this change on the vending machine industry would greatly exceed its benefits.

Last I heard it was published and printed in Germany and only orderable via mail, at a very high shipping cost.

Before outlaying the money, I’d like to hear some real reviews/opinions.

I know that grading a bill without having it in hand is difficult, but I'm curious as to what the experts here make of PMG's assessment.

I am researching an interesting series of official polymer banknotes that seem to have received very little attention within the numismatic community.

These notes were produced by Royal Joh. Enschedé for the Fastex (FTN) project and combine professional security printing with a physical cryptocurrency concept.

During my research I have found surprisingly little information regarding their history, collector interest or appearances in established collections.

I would appreciate the opinion of experienced collectors.

• Has anyone here ever encountered these notes?

• Have you seen complete sets offered publicly or privately?

• How would you classify them within modern numismatics?

My interest is purely educational. I am not offering anything for sale; I am simply trying to understand how these notes are viewed by collectors.

The standard proposed signature in question is quite tall. To fit into the currently available spaces, it might have to be shrunken down quite a bit, perhaps more than the signatory in question would like to see.

Given these geometrical facts, is it likely that other parts of the various note designs will have to be altered to accommodate a large signature? I was of the understanding that it takes several years to create a new U.S. currency design, though I suppose that it might take less time to redesign only one portion of each design.

These seem to be somewhat uncommon but have marginal interest. I would think that the Batavia might be the one with the greatest demand given it’s geographic location. I am looking for more than Heritage auction records. While those records are helpful, it seems there have been a small number of notes handled/sold. Does anyone have an estimate on the surviving number of these? Thanks in advance for anything shared.

I came across this note in my long lost collection of banknotes. In trying to assess the FMV, I first checked out ebay. To my surprise, it appears to be a very rare original P1 note from Saudi Arabia from the first Haj Pilgrimage in 1953. From the English text, the note is a receipt that is redeemable likely after participating in the Haj or at least in the vicinity.

There is a very similar note on eBay for $9.99 for a "COPY" of a rare original. I do not see any mark on the copy note to indicate it is a reproduction. This has me guessing whether my note is an original or copy. Given it's circulated condition and personal note on the back, I'm betting my note is an original issue of the rare banknote and pretty valuable.

I might send it out to an authority, but that would be ~$100 and several weeks in process. It would have to be a really good bet and worth it. Are there any experts out there to help guide my efforts? Does this note appear genuine or are there any artifacts that make it's authenticity questionable?

I usually prowl on the US Coin forum but I need some help on a currency item. I was talking to a bank teller today and she has some consecutive numbered $1 stat notes, 17 consecutive. I am supposing that they are in great shape the find something like this. Any idea if the items are worth anything.
