I was planning on going to the Hofstra show this weekend, and I was thinking of submitting my 1952 and 1955 Bowman Mantle cards. If I gave the cards to PSA at the show, how long do you think I should expect to wait to get them back slabbed? I hear horror stories of extremely long wait times, and I am debating if it's worth it. I would expect the 1952 to get a PSA 1 and the 1955 to get a PSA 3.

I love collecting pre war baseball hall of famers--goudey, t206, playball, etc. I have a hard time finding ones I can afford though because I am a high schooler, so money doesn't exactly grow on trees for me haha. Does anyone have any pre war hall of famers in really rough shape you would be willing to part with? I will pay a fair price. Please dm me with anything you might have. Thanks for any help you all can give me!

I do a horror movie podcast with a friend of mine and I am always looking for toys or trading cards in the movies. This week we are doing Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and there is a scene with a Louisville Slugger bat. I first saw there was a signature on it and was trying to find to see if I could figure out whose name was on the bat, but then I noticed something else. Frito-Lay MVP was on it. So I figured this had to be a give away or something as I do remember getting wooden bats at Phillies games as a kid.

So now I am not only trying to figure out whose name is on it but what a Frito-Lay MVP bat is and how you would have had to obtain this. This movie was released in 1988 so it is most likely from a team in CA around that time.

If anyone knows who the name is or what a Frito-Lay MVP was or how you would have come across this bat when it was produced, I'd appreciate any info.

For anyone who also likes sports or sports memorabilia in movies, if you haven't seen Slumber Party Massacre, spread out over a few scenes, the girls try to figure out how the Dodgers scored all of their runs. Based on the information give, I was able to determine that the game took place on Sunday, May 17th 1981.

Got back a card submitted by local card shop and it came back "miscut" do not holder. The PSA definition of "miscut" is clearly to identify an atypical cut for the issue that results in portions of the card being cut off or more than one card being visible. However, by PSA's own standards my card doe not meet those definitions. Boarder's are between a 7 or 8 standards being 67/33 on both front and back. No other issues that are glaring on color, printing, corners ect. The card came back as miscut and DO NOT HOLDER as marked no qualifiers. Anyone have comments on this before I jump into contacting PSA to question their own definition not met which I think should be put in a holder with graded a 7 or less depending on all factors?

Highest priced PSA card:

1992 Ramirez OPC
1991 Chipper OPC
1990 Walker OPC
1990 Sosa OPC
1989 Johnson OPC
1987 Bonds OPC
1987 Canseco OPC
1987 Clark OPC
1985 Puckett OPC
1985 Gooden OPC
1984 Mattingly OPC
1983 Gwynn OPC
1983 Sanberg OPC
1981 Baines OPC
1981 Gibson OPC
1981 Raines OPC
1979 Ozzie Topps
1978 Murray Topps
1977 Fidrych Topps
1975 Yount Topps
1975 Brett Topps
1975 Carter Topps
1975 Rice Topps
1974 Winfield OPC
1973 Schmidt Topps
1972 Fisk OPC
1971 Blyleven OPC
1970 Munson OPC
1968 Ryan OPC

Keep in mind that the OPC Populations are 5 - 10 % that of Topps. For example Mattingly Topps PSA 10 864, OPC 49. Bonds is worse than that, etc. Fidrych Topps PSA 9 109, OPC 31. The Topps sales for 3.5 times more, It doesn't look like a close call pop wise with any of the cards, but some Topps especialy starting with 1979 and back seem to be more favorable to topps. But when you get to Ryan it's a huge difference between the OPC and Topps. The OPC can be up to 1.5 times more Pricey.

Hockey is just the opposite. OPC sales for more 95% of the time. But the 1987 - 1990 hockey seems to have more OPC available than topps. But availability doesn't seem to matter.

Just thought I would provide some analysis. If find it interesting, yet puzzling.

1976 Star Trek #1 PSA $2551 ??? Last one that IMHO looked nicer sold about 8 weeks ago for $375, the one prior in Nov sold for ~$325. 8x that seems very fishy

Seller sold a lot of other 1976 Trek many of which were 2-7x FMV. So not just this one card although it was one of the more egregious examples.

Pumping scheme? guesses?

I went to a Raleigh NC show in 2012. I picked up a 1976 Brett for $2. I had it graded by PSA and it came back psa 9 OC. Anyone have any clue what the FMV of this is? 10% of a real 9, maybe? 7's go for $150 - $175 for a decent centered on. But I feel like the 9 OC might be worth more than that. Maybe not as much as 8 though.

Around seven years ago I had the idea to collect all the autographs of catchers who have won the Topps Rookie Cup award on their Topps Rookie Cup cards. Topps didn't put the Cup on the cards at all from 1979 through 1986 and there are a few cards over the years since the first set of them in 1960 that the Cup is simply missing for whatever reason. As I started collecting the catchers I took a look at all the other winners over the years and decided to expand the chase to all the Rookie Cup winner autographs. Most players had a card issued the year after they won the Rookie Cup award but a few didn't. Notably Danny Ainge and Charles Johnson (another mystery of the chase - Johnson was the winner for catcher in the year 1995 but didn't have a Topps card issued in a MLB uniform until 1999 at which time he'd already moved to the Dodgers). Another few over the years have had Cups appear on their cards though Topps doesn't list them as winners of the award - I'm familiar with Jose Tabata (2011 Topps Heritage), Tony Saunders (1998 Topps) and Robby Hammock (2004 Topps). If anyone else has run across others I'd love to hear about them.

As I started collecting I started really appreciating the history of baseball and the Topps Company's part in its growth over the years.

I'm now down to around 20 cards left of all the winners since 1960 on their cards and thought I'd start a post on this board to highlight the collection and track the hopeful progress towards completion.

Who are the 20 you ask? Not the star studded names you might think. Names like Tsuyoshi Shinjo, Kazuhiro Sasaki, Mike Aviles... these are the players that I've searched for over seven years through many Ebay saved searches and websites perusing but have yet to even see an example of them.

Hello All –

Decided to start my own thread to document my journey to build a collection of “new to the hobby” cards I pull, many of which will be graded.

There may be spurts of activity and sometimes it will be a little quiet. I plan to show a mix of rip results, raw cards and graded cards. Only cards I personally pull and/or come from a Randomized Rip I participated in.

I hope you will enjoy the thread and have fun seeing shiny new cards freshly plunked from their cocoons.

Saw this "Lucky Box" - CGC graded card mystery box machine on the casino floor near the registration desk.
I was thinking of taking one for the team just to see how it goes, so I tapped the screen for pricing to see how much.
Didn't feel like risking $159 for maybe getting a CGC10 card of a .192 hitter in Double A who'll never reach the show.
Hell, even if I got a CGC10 of a Shohei Ohtani Topps Now card, I'd never recover the $159.
I guess that's why they call it gambling.

A few months back I posted looking for opinions on my '63s I've had since new. The Rose rookie was definitely one to be graded and I found a couple others I would send in too (those I sent in at the value level -32.99). I figured at worst I would get 4s and if the stars aligned correctly, maybe a 5. The Rose I thought was a 4, maybe a 5. So I sent that one in at the express level (149.00) rather than the regular (79.99) level because that max value was only $1500.
So today I got an email saying my Rose was only a 3! Light corner wear and minor scuffing on the front.... I always thought a VG card had creases or major defects! They stated I had an offer of $1000 for the card with no fees. What to do??
I looked at ebay and found Roses (grade 3) sold mostly for 1200 - 1400 with a few up to 1600. Not sure if I go with ebay or not. I already paid an extra $70 for more grading than I needed. Does the no fees mean I get the full 1000 and there is no seller premium or are there any other charges? I'm kinda thinking just sell to them and learn my lesson.

I am attending my first Strongsville card show next month. Was wondering what type of payment do the dealers accept? Credit cards, Venmo, PayPal? Or is it mostly cash only?

Appreciate any other recommendations about the show. Thank you.

I submitted a full set of 1954 Spic and Span cards for grading. I provided them with the checklist straight from the SCD and I found out today they are being returned "NO SPEC INFO, NO GRADE, NO CHARGE". Was there something else I could have provided to them? I submitted them at an in person event and the PSA staff I spoke to said they should grade them with this support. I was under the impression that the big SCDS was the bible, but obviously it was not in my case. For those unfamiliar with the set, here is an example.

Hello everyone, I have a question about this card. I’ve researched it but can’t find another one like it. Could anyone please point me in the right direction for either verifying and authenticating it, or deciding whether it’s worth grading or keeping raw? I’m not concerned about its value, but a general idea would be helpful. As far as I can tell, it’s a 1 of 1 thank you for your time, Christopher.

If a BBCE FASC box has a small stain on the back of the box that appears to be on the BBCE label, does it reduce the value of the box? For the purpose of this example let's say its a 1981 to 1985 Topps Baseball Wax box. If the box looks nice but there's a small stain on the back of the BBCE packaging -about the size of a quarter - would it reduce the price and desirability of the item and if so how much?

Overall Summary
— PSA graded 1.65m cards - ⬆6% vs Apr, ⬆21% YoY. Record high.
— CGC graded 570k cards - ⬆67% vs Apr, ⬆209% YoY. Record high. CGC appeared to benefit from a few large bulk orders, including nearly 100k Topps 50/50 Ohtani cards.
— SGC graded 145k cards - ⬇13% vs Apr, ⬇17% YoY.
— Beckett graded 59k cards - ⬆3% vs Apr, ⬇1% YoY.

according to sgc, they had to extend grading from 5-10 days to 15-20 days. i am currently at 24 days. according to gemrate sgc's gradings are down 17% year over year. something not making sense. anybody got any inside info?

****1947 to 1966 - Exhibit Baseball Cards.****

I am looking for some help identifying if these cards are authentic (see attached images). Is there anyone who has knowledge of what to look for on these? I used Claude AI and came out about 80% sure they are original, but I am planning on listing some of them for sale and want to be certain before I do.

I read that the "printed in USA" was printed in the later years (vs. Made in USA being earlier)

I also read there is a dark gray background version that is a sign of reprints.

By looking at the print dot pattern on mine, it looks like these are original.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

We all know Pete Rose, Cepeda, Yaz...I'm looking for guys that people kinda missed that was a winning player. Watching a LOT of classic games from my childhood and I'm looking at many players differently. I never gave two thoughts about Tim Foli or Mike Squires. They were great players. Squires is one of the best defensive first baseman I ever saw and a nifty LH bat. Foli was tough as nails. Dude played the '79 season with a partially TORN hammy!

"Hey Tanner, Jose just allowed me to buy his teeth that he had pulled. What do you think about making some cards with them?"

Welp, I didn't have that on my bingo card for the year!

The proposition was for me to take three of Jose's teeth, and create cards out of them for Edward (my friend who bought the teeth), our friend Mark, and myself. I was overcome with the thought of how wacky, unhinged (in a good way) and incredibly unique this opportunity was.

It probably didn't come off as insane to me as it does to you, my dear reader, as I have already created cards with teeth, hair, and nails for others. Sure, the teeth cards I had done in the past were fake gag teeth, and the nails were from my customer's pets, but it wasn't much of a leap for me. Plus, something fun - exactly 11 years ago TODAY, I created a fake card company called "Four One" for April Fools Day. The high-end set was to feature all kinds of weird things ... band-aids, casts, contracts, steroids, etc. Over the years, I've updated some once or twice. Here is a tooth one I created of Aaron Judge. How crazy is it that this has come full circle?

This project oozed with the potential of going viral, and we even got a taste of it early when Edward posted the now famous "bag of teeth".

If I were to take the thousands of responses Edward received and melt them all down into a single meme, it would be this ...

To say there was a visceral reaction by the masses would be a vast understatement. With the click of a button, Edward singlehandedly triggered the entire hobby. The photo of the bag of teeth was NOT pretty, I get it. Heck, even saying "the photo of the bag of teeth..." just seems wrong, but I'll admit, I joined Edward on the couch with a bag of popcorn (metaphorically speaking) to watch how bad the comments got. Some people made videos of it, and even tagged the FBI page. Heck, some even ridiculed me and Mark for merely being mentioned in the post! That's one way to go viral, and it definitely adds a new dimension to this story.

I have had a number of people reach out asking if this was a real thing - if my friend actually bought Jose's teeth. When I confirmed it was true, the discussion went like this with pretty much everyone:

Them: Eww gross!

Me: If you could get a tooth of your favorite player, would you?

Them: Well...yes, lol.

If you collected Frank Thomas hardcore, would you turn down owning one of his teeth? Or would you think it is creepy and gross? What if the tooth was embedded in a card? Maybe that is a bit more palatable for folks. I know it is for me. The truth of the matter is, you can hold both beliefs at once.

Years ago, Andrew McCutchen auctioned off his dreadlocks, and a customer sent it to me to create a card. He then had Cutch sign it - he thought it was a great!

Even then, my customer and I both got hated on for the creation of this card, though to a much lesser degree. Still, it gave me a taste of what may come with this reveal.

Prior to incorporation into the cards, I took the teeth to be examined and X-rayed by a friend of mine, Dr. Kevin Nail, DDS. Examination confirmed the original teeth and roots beneath the crowns, and each tooth was identified by position. Kevin is such a nice guy, as are his staff, and his facility looks great. Thank you so much, Kevin! (The least I could do is give him my book!)

After this, it was time to start really digging into the artwork. My brain went a thousand ways...

Tooth Fairy Card? nah...

Die-cut the card like a tooth ... no ...

Gum NOT included in this card...something about gum...gums...teeth...

The Tooth Hurts ... Tooth or dare...

As you can see, I get super punny when my brain starts going.

From the outset, I understood this project would be unlike any other. A genuine body part (ack...that sounds horrific) I mean ... biological relic from a former American League MVP is, even on its own, one of the most unusual and compelling conversation pieces a collector could own - perhaps surpassing significant game-used memorabilia and even the most highly sought after cards in terms of sheer uniqueness.

I can tell someone I own a bat knob card, a barrel card, a Superfractor, a game-used jersey, even a home run bat - and those are all remarkable items. But the moment I tell someone I own his tooth, the conversation all of a sudden gets super interesting.

With a relic of this significance, the responsibility was clear: the presentation had to match the importance of the artifact itself. This card was designed not simply to house the relic, but to present it in a way that reflects its truly one-of-a-kind nature.

It is a tall order to take something perceived as creepy/stalkerish, and turn it into something classy, while mixing in the right amount of humor. Here is what I came up with - I'll first show Edward's copy with Jose's Upper Left Molar wrapped in a custom designed and produced card.

Even the back took hours - I love that it says it includes a piece of Jose, similar to how other cards would say they include a piece of Jose's bat, jersey, etc. Finally, the warning at the bottom cites actual cloning laws on the books for Texas, California, and Florida - where myself, Edward, and Mark reside.

Oh yeah, and Edward's card is the thickest of them all...

If you tilt it and look inside the relic cavities (no pun intended) you can see the roots, but I'll spare you those pics

So needless to say, this has shot up to my most interesting conversation piece in my collection - one that I might refrain telling others about unless I have ample time to explain how I came into possession of it ... otherwise people might be calling the authorities on me.

In an effort to integrate the newly created card into my collection, I decided to show it next to a couple of fun official relic cards in my collection. In spite of its content, I think it fits in quite nicely!

So, after months of researching, planning, testing, designing, and producing, the tooth chapter finally comes to an end. And yes, I know it is April Fool's Day, but I assure you this is NOT a joke. It is real, and is published live today because it is the anniversary of the aforementioned "Four One" gag release I published eleven years ago today. I never would have thought creating a joke card release would come full circle and into fruition more than a decade later. What a fantastic bookend!

A HUGE thank you to Edward Jones for being crazy enough to have the guts to ask Jose for his teeth.

At the end of the day, we all want something unique in our collection ... something that has a compelling story attached to it. Whether it is a tooth card that whips the internet up into a frenzy, a Superfractor, or even the very first card you pulled with your dad - whatever brings you joy is what you should collect - free from worry of what others may think - and that is what collecting is all about. After all, we should collect for ourselves, not for others. Even if one of those items would be more fitting in Ripley's Believe it or Not.

I'm trying to find some nice 1959 Topps Baseball Hall of Famers in PSA 8 and I found this on EBAY. Maybe one of the worst PSA 8's I have ever seen. I read that PSA has more than one grader review each card so how did two graders think this was an 8?

Hello everyone! I have recently started hunting for rare errors/variations just for fun. I am trying to get a really nice error/variation collection and have made good progress so far. I am still learning more about this area of the hobby so I have no idea outside a few cards what really rare and valuable variations are out there. I would really appreciate if you all can let me know of any really rare and valuable variations you can think of for me to start hunting down (any sport). I already know about the iconic ones like the 89 Fleer Ripken, 1990 Topps Frank Thomas NNOF/blackless, and the 89 UD Dale Murphy Negative as (hopefully) every hard-core collector does. Thank you all for any help you can provide!
