I did the local monthly show this weekend and have some observations:

-The same dealers last month with platinum or silver that bought high still had the exact same items priced high with the justification they bought high. I'm not sure how that works when I guy across the room is pricing to sell. Ex: 1 oz brand or generic silver bars at $129-$149. Other dealers around $90 or less.

-The spreads on gold are pretty tight. Likely attributed to its stability lately. Silver spreads still pretty wide.

-I was able to get several 1987 proof silver eagles for $85 each, which I easily sell for $120 on ebay.

-I was able to buy a 1993 Philly Gold Proof set in OGP for spot. He actually had it priced under spot by $250 and when I asked about his best price....he re-priced it. Lesson learned, but I hadn't done the math before inquiring on the price.

I'm seeing some bullion selling, but things have definitely quieted down a lot. Bullion dealers are typically willing to be flexible to move inventory right now.

I was gonna call this thread "The Case for $3,000 Gold" -- but I wanted a long-term perspective and who cares about a 50% rise in the price over a decade, right ? That's only 4% a year or so. That'd be like saying that gold was going to $100 an ounce in the 1960's when the real market price was probably $50-$60 (official price was $35/oz.).

I do believe that over the next 10-12 years that gold can hit $5,000. I'll discuss some reasons why below as (hopefully) gold stays above $2,000 and gets to $2,500 within a year or two and maybe $3,000 by 2027.

Silver has had a significant increase in value over the past 12 months.

My point to discuss is, "What is next?"

Other than in 1972 when silver hit a peak at about $6 and retreated 30% down to about $4, there is no prior evidence that silver is able to increase price and then slow churn upward, or even trade sideways in a stable manner, for any period of time.

It always seems that silver has a spike to a blow off top followed by a significant pullback for multiple years.

Outside of hope, what evidence is there that silver will behave differently this time?

Based on the pains felt by the shorts, which is about a month worth of annual worldwide silver production at COMEX currently (and not knowing how much of the short position is just hedge by mines for silver that is currently in production), at some point some it feels like capitulation by the shorts under squeeze will occur. The classic blow off top will follow to a high which is 50-100% higher than here and a pullback drop of 60% or more.

Why won't silver follow its historical MO and instead behave in a more stable manner when it hasn't been stable at any time in the past?

note, the picture of little round holders I think was originally used one for each ingot and the plastic display holder came later.

Like with many conspiracy theories, we silver tin foilers are finally vindicated. In three short months the curtain has been pulled back and the truth is out; there is far less silver than there are promises. March will be an interesting month as delivery demand is expected to outweigh delivery promises.

Mr. Gold sums it up best: "there is a difference in being early and being wrong. When Noah was running around building his ark, he looked wrong. He was not wrong–he was just early." He adds "if silver fails to deliver, gold will fail to deliver in 24 hours."

Rock does in fact beat paper. Many here have long believed this to be true and have relentlessly prepared for this. We have been heavily rewarded of late but the dust is still in the air. $120 silver was just a precurser. Opportunity to be early once again presents itself.

Silver is the most reflective metal across the visible light spectrum.

Silver is exhibits the highest electrical conductivity of all metals, making it a critical material in high-efficiency electrical contacts, conductive pastes, and photovoltaic (solar cell) technologies.

Silver naturally tarnishes over time, forming a colorful patina that many collectors find enhances the beauty and character of silver coins, a phenomenon of interest in materials science and numismatics.

Silver has the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of all metals, making it an important material in smartphones, computers, and advanced processors such as CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, and AI-related hardware.

Silver coins were placed in milk containers to help preserve freshness, and silver-lined water tanks in ships and aircraft helped keep stored water potable for extended periods.

Silver possesses strong antimicrobial properties, through the oligodynamic effect, it can inhibit and kill bacteria, which is why silver utensils—such as spoons traditionally gifted to infants—were valued for their hygienic benefits. Its antimicrobial qualities are also utilized in medical instruments, hospital equipment, water purification systems, and in the form of nanoparticles in odor-resistant and antimicrobial textiles.

Maybe this thread could become the place on the internet to get help identifying the makers of ingots.

I'll start with three that I have.

This first one has been posted before and still not identified, but the mark is distinctive enough to where it seems like it should be identifiable. Some sources on the internet speculate that it is "MTE Bell", but I don't think it is the shape of a bell. Other sites call it a "Comstock Mold", but that only identifies the type of mold that it was poured in, not the maker. One other picture I have seen has a similar marking with a "1970" date inside the circle above the "flower" (or whatever it is):

BRC rectangle.
Some sources claim this is "Bahamian Refining Company", but the style of the bar is vastly different than the other "BRC" (script logo) molded bars:

I went to a local show with about 30-50 tables this weekend. Nothing too interesting from the numismatic sense so I focused on bullion. I was looking for items to resell on ebay or keep if it was unusual or nice material. I haven't been to one of these shows in a long time. My last show was FUN.

The range of prices varied widely. I was able to get a couple JM 1 oz silver bars for $81 each, which was about the best deal there. I could have done better at local shops, but these are still bringing $100 each on ebay.

I sold a few 1/10 AGEs for $512. Buy price range was form $470-$512 each. Ask was around $550 across the board.

I was able to buy 19 Proof silver eagles in the boxes for $75 as a bulk buy from a dealer (under spot). They were listed at $80 each and they said they had more for the show next month. These bring $90-$135 on ebay. Dates ranged from 87-2013.

A dealer was selling three proof 1989 AGEs in OGP. Two 1/10 and one 1/4. The 1/10s were $45 over each and the 1/4 was $35 over. I bought the 1/4.

Some small dealers were asking $122 for mid range 1 oz silver bars. They must have been buried.....but that's not the way to do business IMO. I asked some dealers on Platinum and was quoted either "I'm too buried you don't want to know" or $2400-$2600/oz. Platinum is really hanging to 25% over spot from most anywhere I've seen it. On the run up I was able to buy Proof Plat Eagles at $100 over.

Figured I'd share some real world information.

Will the recent price spike have people buying with increased demand over 2025 or will it have the opposite effect and chill sales?

2025 totals were 11,568,000 , seeing standard January surge followed by a lower monthly totals from recent past years.

I think we do not have a big Jan number but we do exceed 2025 totals at the end.

When silver bumped up awhile back many in coin club including me made a killing (well over 2x cost) on SBC whether raw or slabbed. We had been collecting / stock piling these (many slabbed 69 and70) 18 mo or so when silver very cheap. For many this was an affordable investment vs stuff in the k$ range. Investors focused on USA, Mexico, and Great Britain material all 1oz coins mainly. Most were slabbed. These nice collectible coins too. One guy up to the late hours packaging his shipments. Saying been in the biz decades “super sales in the green never something like this.”

Many shocked the uptick retreated quickly. As an investor I am researching the mkt fundamentals….which could have caused the drop.

A local collector asked me to review his collection today, nothing special. However he had a 2010-D Yosemite quarter enamel color on one side that was silver on the edge, had the silver "ping" but an online AI search said that is not possible. He said one of the local shops offered him a lot more than spot for the coin. Is there any possibility the coin is silver? I do not have pictures at this point.

I follow a couple of coin-related channels on YouTube, one hosted by a collector and one by a dealer. Both have commented on a decline in premiums on gold bullion coins and gold collectable coins. They link the decline in premiums to the rise in gold prices. But when I look on the websites of the major online retailers, and when I visit my LCS (which I did last week), I don't see a decline in premiums. They seem as high as ever. What am I missing?

So I had a guy come in yesterday, had bought 250 1/10th oz cook island .24 gold coins, thinking they were a great purchase, only to find out they are not 1/10th, but 1/10th .24 . I told him he took it (you fill in the blank) It was an older gentleman , who was trying to get in on the gold rise. I basically told him we have to buy them like buying 5k scrap gold, cause thats basically what it was. tremendous loss , I told him if gold gets to 17k I might could get him out

There is a seller that has a few sets OGP:

1986 1 oz
1987 2 coin set
1988 4 coin set
1990 4 coin set

He's willing to sell for spot at the time. Any concerns or anything to look out for? I don't have a tester or anything like that. It's a little odd that he doesn't just move them at a dealer, unless he'd getting low ball offers. Are fakes pretty easy to spot on these?

Thoughts?
