$21.50?
Forget that.
That'd be a collectible coin I couldn't come home with.
You may joke, but this was $20.72 delivered to my door this week:
FUN Show NEWP and Brief Report
Due to various obligations, I was only able to attend on Friday this year, and spent most of the time hunting coins I needed for my personal collection. No submissions, vest pocket dealing, etc. I chatted briefly with a few dealer friends when I got the chance. I did get lucky and saw Mark Borckhart working at the Heritage tables. He is one of the top copper experts in country. We lived in the same small town in Ohio many years ago, so it was great to see him again.
I stopped by Desert Moon and Peak Rarities tables several times to say hello, but the proprietors were gone. The only forum member I recognized on the floor was Bill Jones, but he was busy negotiating some large cents with Tom Reynolds and I didn’t want to interrupt. I was able to catch Charmy the second time around; she was three deep in customers on my first pass.
I was not able to fill the last hole in my walker set. I came close though, as I found one in the right grade range, but decided it was just a little too “cleany” looking for my tastes.
I looked at a lot of large cents, but didn’t buy anything to fill the few holes, but did get one upgrade that I was looking for. I did see some that would have worked, but I either didn’t like the coin after examining it, or didn’t like the price (or both). The Classic Heads especially seem to have grades and allowances for “issues” that are all over the map.
The 1816 is the scarcest date of the Randall hoard cents to find nice, imo, and upgrading the one I had to match my others was on my list. Another collector was going to buy the coin the first time I was at the dealer’s table, but needed to think about it. I came back two hours later and it was still there, so I asked if it was fair game. Oh yeah he’s had long enough. In fact a dealer was just looking at it. Everyone likes the coin but not the price…so I himmed and hawed, decided to counter offer his best price, and was happy when he accepted. Feel free to GTG, scratches are on the holder not the coin; the reverse is rotated and the obverse rim shows the typical crumbling/cud:

Re: Toned Bust H10c certified
I was looking closely at a few of my own capped bust half dimes and I realized I had an 1832 LM-3 that bears similarity (including the grade of MS63) to the 1831 in this post. Truth be told, I think the 1831 is the better coin - but I love 'em both.

I'll continue to shop online and park for free in my garage.
Nothing like a real show though
