Numismatic Literature - (2) Copies of Deluxe Eliasberg Gold Catalogs, Pittman Part III, and Deluxe T

The John Jay Pittman Collection Catalog. Part Three. The World Coins. Over 3000 lots on 503 pages.

An immense collection of world coins, spanning many centuries and numerous continents. The John Pittman collection is unbelievable in both quality and scope. Dozens of superb rarities are found throughout (1936 "Dot" Specimen Set from Canada, the unique Japan Meiji 13 (1880) Proof set, the 1636 Spanish 50 Reales), but the jaw-dropping coins do not stop there - in the words of David Akers, "the sale also offers many, many other items which are sufficiently rare that they would be the highlight of virtually any other collection of World Coins". In superb condition, both inside and out. After this one sells, it is unlikely I'll have another for quite some time, as they are notoriously tough to find. Offered at $95 delivered. Reduced to $85 delivered.

The Dr. Thaine B. Price Collection. May 19, 1998. David Akers. 120 pages. 213 lots. – Bound in blue leatherette with gilt lettering. Like new condition. A special bookplate attached to front pastedown indicating date of sale, with signatures of Dr. Thaine B. Price, David W. Akers, and Thomas A. Mulvaney. Number 79 of 250. The bookplate is loose but present, as is often the case (this can be easily re-affixed if the buyer should choose to do so).

From the Experts at PCGS: “Dr. Thaine B. Price collected coins for over two decades. His goal was to assemble the finest possible set of 20th Century gold series, i.e. the four series minted from 1908 to 1933. Dr. Price had a great eye for quality and he was assisted in his pursuit by one of the top experts/dealers in the field, David Akers. Dr. Price also decided to put together the finest possible set of circulation strike Barber half dollars, and he also built a nearly complete set of Gem proof Barber halves. When David Akers auctioned the Price collection in 1998, it was one of the major events of the year, even though the auction only had 213 coins.

The Price collection of $5 Indians was spectacular, perhaps the best ever assembled. The set featured many Gems and Superb Gems, including some "finest known" specimens. The key 1909-O was the Eliasberg coin and it brought a mind-boggling $374,000 at the 1998 Price sale. The rare 1910-S was also the Eliasberg coin. The key 1913-S was a spectacular MS66 and it brought $110,000 at the Price sale. The 1915-S was a gorgeous MS65 and it brought $66,000 at the Price sale.” - $69 delivered. Now reduced to $60 delivered.
