Okay, so I am lazy and will never give you guys the write ups like you deserve about my coins like SmEagle, Zohar, JCM and LM do. Ah well, maybe. I'm selectively lazy.

I picked up this coin, son of Harmizd IV (see other Sassanian Drachm post) and it arrived Friday.

You would be forgiven by me if you said that you only liked these coins for the fancy hats that the Emperors wore.

    the Sassanid coinage certainly has a unique look that's for sure

    Yeah, it really is a different coinage. I am still learning much of the basics about it. The star and crescent moon on the obverse around the portrait intrigue me. I do not think the timing is right for Islamic imagery to be on the coin, but i could be mistaken. Anyone know where the symbolism is from?

    Symbolism probably is from Zoroastrianism.
