Hi, Gold from this period can be seen as "clipped" from time to time.
Question: Is this common in this series and is it market acceptable?
Thanks!

seen only a couple of each in the last 15+ years.
They are market acceptable at a discount; as to the TPG's I have
never seen a clipped coin in their plastic. More than likely the
TPG's would just "genuine" the coin if warranted.

+1 I've seen clipped silver but don't recall seeing such for gold (maybe just not paying enuf attention). They sell, but I would think that discounts vs intact coins would be quite large except for rarities.
TPG's treat them. The OP, thebigeng, sent a link to a coin graded
by the guys ATS. The coin was slabbed and graded with a notation
of being clipped. I studied the pictures and could not see the
clipped portion of the coin. The terms clip, clipped and clipping
have different meanings for Ancient, Byzantine and Medieval
coins. Dishonest people would remove, with shears, parts of the
edges of gold and silver coins for their own ill gotten gains. I hope
this clears things up.
