What do you consider to be "long term"?

Someone in another thread reminded us that PM's are a long term investment which I pretty much agree with. But as an old guy it got me thinking---how long is long term when it comes to PM investments? What say you?

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

    Not being one to hold assets for extended periods, 5-10 years qualifies.

    I have friends that consider holding stuff for a lifetime to be the norm.

    Well, Im 40 years old...so I have time. I have no problem at all keeping my metals in the safe for decades if I need to.
    I bought my metals responsibly...a little here, a little there. I never strapped myself to buy them. Unless Im adding to my stack....I don't even check spot prices.

    What do you consider to be "long term"?

    Anything over 1 year. (got to abide by the IRS rulesimage)

    I think age has something to do with it.
    If it's late in my lifespan that's long term but beyond that I don''t need to worry about it image

    I think of "long-term" as a crutch as it is what every investor in every asset class falls back upon.

    I'm 48 and I've never viewed long term in anything other than marriage, parenthood and employment to be longer than 6 months.
