Congratulations to APPLE!

Increased dividend, 7-1 stock split, earnings and revenue beat....

and......

$5,000,000 in tax giveaways from the idiots in Arizona.

Story.

""'Many lawmakers believe the other bill, SB 1484, specifically targets Apple Inc.'s planned Mesa sapphire glass manufacturing plant. It would provide a $5 million tax credit if a company installs at least $300 million in renewable power capacity to supply its plant.""

You came, you saw, but you failed!

First off, the freebie handed to Apple requires a $300,000,000 expenditure in renewable energy production. Out here in the desert, that means solar. Each solar panel includes about 20 grams of silver. A project of this size would use a significant amount of the precious metal and could influence similar projects, albeit at taxpayer expense.

It sounds to me that giving them a 5 million dollar tax break so that they will spend 300 million in your state is a good deal. Considering that building and maintaining a solar plant will generate a lot of jobs and therefore more taxes for Arizona to collect.

True Socialist reasoning. What about the longtime business owners in the state that employ folks and get no tax breaks? Governments should not be in the business of choosing winners and losers.

Serious question: have you ever worked in an industry? (I mean a real industrial industry, not the coin "industry")

I have Baley. Out of college in the late 70's I was an independent manufacturers representative. Over the next 15 years we worked with Raytheon, Amoco, Rubbermaid and US Industries as well as many small $5M to 50M manufacturers.

My customers included K-Mart, JC Penney and ACE Hardware, not to mention most retailers and distributors of any size in Michigan and Northern Ohio.

Interesting info, thanks. Your posts sometimes come off as anti-everything, so it's good to get that perspective.

I confess I thought this was a thread about how Tim Cook had run the company into the ground .

that would be unkind though , 0% growth is quite an accomplishment , it's not like they had a big lead in any particular area when he took the job image

Thank you for the nice words, Baley.

I have trouble adjusting to an ever intrusive government. I believe that many gestures such as the Apple deal are well meaning, with the politicians truly trying to stimulate job growth. Though a relatively small payout will probably return great dividends, it can only cause bitterness on the medium and small business folks that not only have to pay their fair share of taxes, but also carry Apple, Microsoft and Amazon on their backs.

I think tax breaks should only go to owners of 16-year-old grey American-made cars with less than 80,000 miles on them. image

When I moved to Arizona in the mid 90's, the state was offering a $7000 or so tax credit for certain low emission 4 wheel vehicles. Unfortunately the electric golf cart fell into the bounds of the poorly written legislation, and many golfers made out like bandits.
