gotsparks09: I really like those superhero cards. If I wanted to put a set together, which one do you think looks the nicest. Is it better to build a set from packs? Thanks.

It's pretty easy to get these types of sets from the 1990's off of Ebay for $20 or less for complete base sets. It'd cost a lot more to put them together from packs. It's not as easy to get say...a 1993 Marvel Masterpieces pack as it is to get a 1993 Topps Baseball pack.

Chase card values depend on the set, though. Some chase cards are VERY tough to find for some reason. I can remember ripping pack after pack of all sorts of comic cards as a kid, and rarely got a chase card for most sets. I ripped HUNDREDS of 1995 Ultra Spiderman packs and only ONCE got one of those Clear Chromes you see above. I think I maybe pulled two Holoblasts. My friends didn't have much luck either.

Here's an example of how hard the chase cards for some sets can be to find:

EBay Auction

This auction still boggles my mind. You can piece together most of these chase sets over the course of a month on Ebay for maybe $100 total. Every one of these base sets could be had for $10-$20. Anyone else maybe know what is up with this? Are one of these chase cards sets near impossible or something????

Sorry to tell you most of these sets are pretty easy to get nowadays, and then show you this auction link. But the auction boggles me. I'm pretty sure this isn't normal.

Here is the highlight of my non-sport collection. 1977 Topps Star Wars Luke Skywalker #1 PSA 9 1/13 and 1977 Topps Star Wars The Villainous Darth Vader #7 Full Color Proof 1/1 BVG 8.5 1/1! Very very tough to get a proof higher than BVG 8. Since they were handled so much. My guess subs are cent 9 or 9.5, corners 8.5, edges 8.5, surf 9 or 9.5. If you get a grade higher than BVG 8, consider it cherry on a 1/1 card. May The Force Be With You!

I just noticed today that it's been exactly 1 year since I started building my 1959 Fleer Indian set in PSA 8+.

So in honor of that, here's some scans...

I recently purchased a few of these 25-card sets: 1939 Godfrey Phillips "Beauties of To-Day".

Here is a sample of the first 8 cards!
