A pretty penny and some photography practice

BoosibriBoosibri Posts: 11,873 ✭✭✭✭✭
Bought in an antiques store in a full set of World War 2 coin in a capital plastics holder. Sent to our hosts and came back as questionable color, now in an NGC 66 (thought I might get a star). On a rainy day I thought I would practice some coin photography. Second try in the second set of images.

Very nice capture of the color which is not easy.

Top notch images - I'm impressed! You clearly have the lighting down which is probably the most important part.

Nice coin and color. Too bad our hosts were out to lunch on the color, but I'm glad NGC holdered it.

Another illustration that grading is an opinion and opinions are opinions... I suppose we would have been better off if Yogi Berra was a coin collector.

From your excellent imaging, I'd say the toning is in no way "questionable". Maybe the "graders" should have Sunnywood's color progression charts posted in the darkroom.

The funny thing is that all of the coins in the set have this sort of color, this however is the nicest. On the PCGS submission, they graded all except this one. On the NGC submission they graded all but a different one. I could understand to some degree the PCGS point, this IS the most vibrant and has pretty dramatic color. On the NGC side, they seemly picked out a random coin to BB which in no way stands out from the rest. All have this same look and coloration. The annoyance is that I want them all in sequential serials, preferably in PCGS holders. At this point however I am done spending money on them.

I would love to see a list of those who judge copper.
I mean it would be nice to read their curriculum vitae.

    Beautiful pic and coin.
