An Ebayer with 217 bid Retractions

bestdaybestday Posts: 4,220 ✭✭✭✭
Anyone run across an Ebayer that has a handle O---O (2244) Ebay Id.. Checked him out ,he has 217 bid retractions in the last six months .. 17 in the last month
This looks like he just runs up bids and then retracts his bid if he is the current high bidder

The high retraction bidders should be auto blocked by Ebay, but they are not. One a month tops may be reasonable for a very active bidder. Any thing above that is not.

It's a buyers world on E-Bay. Not likely to change anytime soon

They give buyers more latitude than is remotely logical.

I have bought in excess of 10000 items on Ebay and never once retracted a bid. I really don't know why ebay doesnt give you something like 3/yr and if you exceed that a ban.

  • Straight auctions on ebay don't work for me even as a power seller. I'm competing with all the shill operations, like trading against robots.

Because the bidders are golden to Ebay and sellers are resented. Rather arrogant approach as Ebay is dependent on the sellers to keep inventory on the shelves.

i thought that fleebay put a stop on that after so many retractions in a certain time period or did they drop that like they did on other things?

17 in 1 Month is incredible.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Some bidders will think the seller is using the retraction bidder as a shill....

Someone looking for the "bottom" and ebay allows it (in the pond there is pond scum), because they (THE HOUSE rules) , forgot what a binding contract is when a person(another account user, as entities are concerned) PULLS the "CYBER" trigger. That fact alone puts the ultimate spotlight on who's in the wrong. They're the ones in the know.

And since sellers are not in the know then those doing this and ebay are complicit in the continuance of such irresponsible action with legal ramifications. But maybe these old eyes are just too tired. image

There could be a host of reasons a person is "gaming" the site, and keying in on the loopholes this way.

Seems obvious that this is shilling where the shill gets out to allow the legit buyers to win in the end. I'm in agreement that this type of thing should be policed. Failure to do so just permits/encourages the next seller to do the same thing.

In most instances I post a coin at the price I think is fair. If it doesn't sell, I just repost. Eventually the item is returned to my collection or liquidated in a real auction.

What kills me is the non-pays. If someone does not pay, you have to wait 3 days before you can even file a case and then the seller still gets another umptity days to pay. Meanwhile my coin is in limbo for a week. This is especially painful with auctions. What should take 7 days from post to ship can then take 21 days!

I have had a few "cancellations" on my auctions, and at no time have I ever thought someone was "shill" bidding widgets. What for ?
It pisses me off when I get cancellations, but I never think the people who cancel , or have me cancel are shill bidders or idiots…. I just think they either are looking to see where 1) a reserve might be set, or 2) who they might have to "outbid" in the end, or 3) Where they can "price" a similar item for a quick sale.

EIther I am too open minded or too ignorant of the facts. I just can't decide why anyone would retract so many and WHY it would NOT be a red flag for algorithms to catch and police.

And to shill bidding, I have one experience with ebay regarding that. My nephew listed some things starting at a dollar. When they got near the end he said, "Well that's so cheap I should buy it". So he logs in on my computer using his I.D. and wins the item. I was on probation for 6 months for that. And in the end, I couldn't even get fair market price. I probably re listed the item and lost, but it's funny how much I get policed, when reading about people like this who truly game the system; constantly , either a) for another person (conspiracy), or b) for their own protection ( they shouldn't be selling or bidding )

Okay, rant over. My 2 cents worth is a widow's mite about now.

My best was over 1000 retractions in 3 months. I blocked the guy and shortly thereafter he used a different account to buy 12 items from me and lefts begs for them all. It took some work, but I was able to provide enough evidence that it was the same guy even though the name and address were different, and eBay removed the feedbacks. I actively block bidders who retract from my listings of their history indicates any pattern of retraction. All the moreso if they have private feedback and I can't see their retraction history.

Seems to be the trend and one that Ebay is encouraging. I have stuff that has relisted for a year or two. Clutters the search but what the heck, can't fight the trend.

I can't make this up . called Ebay to complain about this excessive retraction bidder .. the Ebay account specialist said 2 complaints, were already logged on this bidder's account , in the last month. He said account restrictions were placed on the bidders account, a month ago.. I asked how can the bidder use 17 bid retractions, after restrictions were place on this bidder's account.. The ebay rep said the retraction bidder's info was confidential .

I have bought a lot of things on ebay, coins, etc and I have quit because of one seller who was a jerk. Ebay is not a collectors friend, especially coin collector. Eventually you will get burnt!!!
