Why coin dealers drink...Part CCCCXXV

CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 31,548 ✭✭✭✭✭
And another one from the coin dealer network:

"And this is one from someone that supposedly bought a nickel from us 4 years
ago!
Hi,
I bought an 1879 shield nickel item # 350410608823 from you on 11-14 2010
paid $230.75 for it and after all this time (sorry) I finally got around to
doing a thorough inspection of it and found it is in fact a 1870. I will be
happy to send it back to you so you can see for yourself, and if you have
photos of the original sale you will see the details match. I unfortunately
had to resort to a harsh clean in the date area to confirm the date. I am no
scammmer as my feedback shows and I know we are way past any return policy
but I just wanted to inform you of my find in hopes we could reach some
middle ground settlement. Please contact me back at your convenience. Thanks, (copied buyers name and ebay name which I have deleted)"

The same dealer also posted this (edited per forum policies):

"This is from a guy that won 2 coins at appx $300
total. He then asked if he could make payments through March. This is his
    latest message!
God, I'm so very sorry to be writing this! My ex-wife who I've been living
with has asked me to move out A.S.A.P! You see, I'm a dumbaxx thinking she
could change, but that's not the case!
I'm going to have to quit eBay as this is her computer, and of course she
will not let me take it with me! So, please relist, and send me how much it
cost, and I will gladly pay your fee's. What a great bunch of luck I have!
AS, I said I'm sorry, to have inconvenienced you this way!!! (name), the

This doesn't make me want to drink. It makes me want to cry.

Easy peasy. The dealer should inform the customer that he will perform an exchange for the 1870 Shield nickel, as soon as he can locate and secure a harshly cleaned 1879 Shield nickel. image

Look at your feedback you say, you mean the feedback that by definition cannot be negative. Oh, yes, that feedback.

Too bad so sad for the first guy (sounds like bogus claim), the return period has already expired like 4 years ago. I would not bother to respond to such an absurd request or if forced: "Sorry sir, all sales are final after the return period."

I wish I could come up with some of these emails. There are one or two dealers I would love to toy with; these dealers and I have a good relationship so it would be a good laugh when unraveled!

In all the time I have been on ebay I can not recall one of these emails. I definitely would tell the guy the return period has expired (bug off, too bad so sad).

As far as guy that can't pay - cancel the transaction. I would be afraid ship to him.
