***Who's buying the 50th Anniversary Kennedy 2014 Half-Dollar Silver Coin Collection on October 28th

I'm in for at least one set....could be an interesting issue.

The 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half–Dollar Silver Coin Collection includes four Kennedy half–dollar coins struck in 90% silver in four different finishes, one from each of the U.S. Mint’s coin production facilities. Something special for any collector or the perfect gift!

This beautiful silver four–coin set was designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy half–dollar first released in 1964. Each coin features the Kennedy portrait design on the obverse (heads) with the year 2014. The attractive packaging is designed to be displayable or stored and protected.

The set includes four Kennedy half–dollar coins struck in 90% silver in four different finishes, one from each of the U.S. Mint’s coin production facilities:
•One reverse proof coin from the U.S. Mint at West Point
•One proof coin from the U.S. Mint at Philadelphia
•One enhanced uncirculated coin from the U.S. Mint at San Francisco. This is a special wire brushing technique implemented in Philadelphia for the first time. The obverse in the areas of the effigy (portrait), lettering, and border will all receive a heavy laser frosting treatment. On the reverse, the lettering and border will each receive a heavy laser frosting treatment. Other elements of the eagle will receive a standard (moderate) laser frosting treatment to enhance certain artistic detail. The stars will receive a laser polish technique to accentuate them against the field.
•One uncirculated coin from the U.S. Mint at Denver

The rich embossed faux leather folder includes an image of John F. Kennedy from the half–dollar design struck on the coins in this set and some patriotic U.S. flag imagery. The U.S. Mint logo appears on the front of the folder and the Department of Treasury seal on the back.

Each set also contains a separate printed Certificate of Authenticity and booklet about the development and design of the Kennedy half–dollar inside the folder.

The four coins with different finishes are encapsulated and secured in coin wells within the packaging. The coins appear from left to right inside the folder: reverse proof (West Point), proof (Philadelphia), enhanced uncirculated (San Francisco), and uncirculated (Denver).

The coins are displayed to show all obverse (heads) sides. The back of each coin can be seen by removing the capsule from the packaging.

The obverse and reverse design descriptions appear on the packaging.

The designs on the coins replicate the portrait on the 1964 design:
Obverse: The design shows a portrait of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the youngest person ever elected to the office. U.S. Mint Sculptor–Engraver Gilroy Roberts based this profile on a portrait prepared for Kennedy’s presidential medal. Roberts created his original 1964 design shortly after Kennedy's assassination.

Reverse: The design is based on the Presidential Seal and was done by U.S. Mint Sculptor–Engraver Frank Gasparro. It consists of a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, holding a symbolic olive branch and a bundle of 13 arrows. A ring of 50 stars surrounds the design, which gives this coin the distinction of having more stars than any other United States coin ever produced for circulation.

Note: All other U.S. Mint 2014 Kennedy half–dollars that are not included in the K13, K14 and K15 sets share the common reverse described above, while the obverse features a strong but simple portrait of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy and the inscriptions “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

Flippers / Dreamers beware ! The Mint has primed the pump with 150,000 Sets all ready to shotgun out the doors.
Look for a flood of product to hit the market all in a Tsunami Wave of terror. The well informed dealers should have
first strike coins for sale at Baltimore, grabbing the limited early market.

I envision combining these with the unloved Gold Kennedy, my roll of 64's, all my assorted post 64's, the Jackie,

and a Kennedy photo I have for a mixed graded super-set! Who will do this for me?

Depending on the new mint ordering system any predictions on a sell out of the first 150K?

Figuring it's only 30K orders @ 5 per and these are Backordered until the cows come home.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess their new ordering system tanks replete with total chaosimage

Oh ya, I predict the first 150K are gone within hours, day 1. These are cheap, a first of the first and likely the last, and multiple ways to make the sandwich.

150k will take longer to sell than the clads will take if they even sell to 150k

I'm in for one. Will be interested in how the new ordering system will handle the deluge of customers. Also the promise from the mint to ship right away which to me means within 3 days of ordering. A week at the most.

One raw from the mint. I may buy a MS 70 set at the right price. I wonder if the dealers will be cautious about these since the gold is not doing well right now.

Remember the Kennedy Reverse Proof will probably be in next years reverse proof set so it will not be unique to the set, but most likely could become a key if they do the reverse proof mint sets yearly. However the enhanced version in this anniversary set will probably be one of a kind and unique.

    It's not official

Somewhere in the numis press is the mint pondering adding "special" coins to their annual set offerings.

Unlike small silver coins, like dimes....I prefer them as big or bigger than a quarter... I'm game for one set, but will be looking in the secondary market for a rev proof PCGS 70 FS.
