from the upcoming Newman auction at Heritage ... just a beautiful coin which I felt like "sharing" as I haven't seen many posted on these boards. I'm guessing Heritage doesn't mind because they have social media "share" buttons all over the place ...

Post a pic of the other side as well?
Didn't look like that one, of course.
My first metal detecting mentor dug one in a local park here, back in the 1980s. Pretty cool. I wish I'd been there that day.
Unfortunately he also found a dog rabies tag nearby. Still attached to a collar. Which was still attached to a dog, or the remains thereof.
Still, if digging the occasional dog carcass is the price to pay for finding some cool colonial coins in the ground, so be it.

It made the blood vessels in MY eyes stand out somewhat, as well.

does cotton grow from trees? i had to search to get specs as i don't know it all verbatim.
here is what almighty google has to say.
Currency paper is composed of 25 percent linen and 75 percent cotton. Red and blue synthetic fibers of various lengths are distributed evenly throughout the paper. Before World War I these fibers were made of silk.
and also, where's the darned link? we are on a forum here people. we like looking at and clicking things! <--- NM!
edited to add: so where does the line get drawn for active or pre-active auctions? i guess i can't incite links being posted if it is for something that is not commonly acceptable. crapola ><

This is one reason I didn't post a link to the auction. Only an image. There are a couple of these in the upcoming Newman auction, and I didn't specify which one it was. Also, I did not discuss the coin in any way except to say that I found it attractive. Also, I found this coin by using the Heritage search option "most popular items" so it's not a secret by any means.
For those reasons I believe we are 100% in the clear regarding "where does the line get drawn."
