For those authors who DO want to produce digital works

While most numismatic authors are stubbornly resisting the digital age, some do recognize opportunity. One such numismatic author wrote to me asking some basic questions. For the benefit of others, I'll post what I told him.

ISBN's: You can't use a print ISBN, but it needn't cost you a dime: If your print publisher can't give you an ISBN for your ebook, Amazon will:

Kindle plugin for Adobe InDesign http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=1000765271
Other tools: "> http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000234621

Formatting:

If you leave your digital book formatted as it was for print, it is almost certainly going to be a poor digital book (page breaks at bad places, orphan headers, etc.)

Plenty of such companies to choose from who do such reformatting for you:

https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A3RRQXI478DDG7

But Amazon has many, many resources if you want to take a stab at it yourself: https://kdp.amazon.com/ and more at http://www.mediabistro.com/galleycat/free-ebook-formatting-marketing-guides-for-writers_b63701

I'd recommend at least reading enough of that to know whether someone you hire knows their stuff or not. As I've seen may poorly done ebooks from big name publishers (Whitman, for one), that's really important.

There is http://e-junkie.com which can be used to sell both digital and hardcopy at your website. You can sell raw PDF's that way though again reformatting is advised.

I also recommend spending $2.99 on How I Sold 1 Million eBooks in 5 Months! Kindle Edition

    Good info.

It IS a shame when people who claim they want to share knowledge then steadfastly refuse to do something that could be done to share that knowledge.
I "LOVE" having a book to hold and read but I also don't want to be limited to big/heavy choices when I want to have the information (If I go to a show, I am NOT hauling books around....and, if I am traveling, it would be great to have the info on my phone/Surface tablet).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Well, stubborn or afraid. Probably the latter most of the time.

Coin collectors claim the hobby is dying, and yet, those responsible for guiding it refuse to adapt to changing times, intentionally antiquating themselves and their work. It's maddening! >>

That, my friend, is a very wise observation.
