Stash of the year award goes to GSAGUY. All in OGP just sittin there, that would drive me nuts not knowing what lurks inside. So when does the opening begin?
<< <i>Many of these are dated from the early 1970's. >>
Were these purchased upon the original GSA release or have you accumulated them in the time since? >>
Back in the early 1970's I was too busy chasing girls to pay much attention to the GSA sale. I started collecting GSA's in the mid 1980's and just picked them up where I could find them. They were tough to find too.
Hey, an interesting thing I noticed while looking at these today. Those first sales in the 1970's limited the buyers to one date per person. This one fellow (out of NY) has about 30 of the singles in this group......apparently mailed in the bid forms under A Jones, B Jones, C Jones, D Jones.............
<< <i>Somebody told me years ago that you could tell the date by the color of the box. Since you have a few there, how about that statement?
Cream = 1882 White = 1883 Pale blue = 1884
etc, can you verify?
thanks, bob >>
At first blush, I'd say no. I've seen 82's in green boxes, 83's in green boxes, both in brown boxes, all three common dates in cream boxes, etc. I'll look at 'em again tomorrow to verify.
Wow, what a stash. I was wondering, were the boxes with the blue overwrap cover shipped that way from the sale? It appears that several are within the wrap?
Walker Proof Digital Album Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
If you know which dates are in which boxes, I'd open the ones with the most valuable dates, and see if you can find a sucker to pay too much for the unopened 83 CC and 84 CCs, hoping to get a nice coin for the grade.
I got 12 GSA CC $s in the last mint sale in 1980. Eight of them were the ugliest Unc. Morgans I've ever seen. One was so-so, two were nice, and one was a keeper (which I still have in a PC 6 holder; no rare dates, though).

When you start to open them and showing us, use this thread, please. I've just subscribed to it and I'm sure my email will be pileing up quickly. Thanks for sharing, man.
One of the light blue boxes with 1884-cc's was sold on ebay last month unopend for quite a bit of money. Buyer stated he did not plan on opening the box. I believe that unopened, the boxes may be worth as much, if not more than opening them.
