in order to be marked gold filled it should be minimum 1/20 or 5% gold content of the carat of the gold marked
so if your chain weighs 20 oz ( example ) it would contain 1 oz of 12K gold...
trouble is the gold is usually bonded to the outside of the piece and wears first so if the piece is used the gold is what wears first so the content is actually much less.... gold filled is kinda like a low yeald mine, it only gets worked when the prices skyrocket..
do a google and you should get a formula for figuring out the gold value I know they used to have it back in 79 in the coinworld ads from the refiners for buying the stuff
If you can't swim you better stay in the boat.......
No wonder you found it on the ground someone went to the pawn shop to trade it for spot price found out that Aunt Hazel told a lie and the owner through it up in the air and said Weeeeeee!! Put it fleebay maybe you can get $6 bucks.
the wife gets 14k............ we see a lot of that in the store..........back in the 80's we had a great customer who was very successful in the restaurant business, he would come in just before xmas and buy the (2) nicest pieces I had.........you can figure out the rest..

<< <i>About half of spot if memory serves me right. 24k is pure (or pretty close to .999 maybe only .900) so 12k is half pure. >>
24kt is .999
22kt is .9
12kt is .5
you would get under 1/2 of spot though

Actually, 22K is .9167 which is the fineness of Kruggerrands and AGE's.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
