'76 & '80 Topps BKB Popped (now scan heavy)

I was honestly a little disappointed, as i was just absolutely sure i'd get at lease 1 "10" fro the '76 vending box I opened. Some look much stronger than these grades, but I'm in the camp that grading is so subjective it just depends on who you get and how they're feeling that day. Can share some scans when they come in. Might submit a few more from the '76 vending box and take a chance.

That's a lot of cards from one vending box. Actually that's a pretty great vending box! Maybe you could look over some of the 9s and crack and resub.

10s asre very tough to get on mid-70s issues. Pretty strong grades overall, though.

Gotta love 1970s basketball. Some scans would be great when you get them back. I am sure even the 7s are sharp, high-end cards.

Just checked out BBCE and they are almost completely dry of unopened basketball pre 1986. I imagine not alot was originally printed.

Bummer there isn't even a single 8.5 as I'm sure they're all high-end for the grade.

I think the .5 is "somewhat reserved" for reviews, because I rarely get more than 1 or 2 on 300 card orders.

Thanks for the comments. Will definitely get some scans up once they come in. Might tease you all with some scans of cards that i didn't feel were grade worthy (but are still really, really nice). It was certainly a fun box to open and go through. Coallation is awesome and I should get at least 4 full sets with lots of extras from the box.

Sorry for the lack of any 10s, but vending is tough. Congrats on the mint ones you did land. Looking forward to the scans.

Did you pick up the fending from bbce?

    Thanks,

Please post scans of some of the cards you thought should've graded higher. You probably have some high end 7's and 8's in that group.

    Great looking cards.

The 76s came from vending? What did a 76 BK vending box look like?

WOW! Not a single 10? That is just wrong for cards that look like that.

I think there was a find of '76 Basketball wax boxes in the last 10 years. Empty boxes were all over eBay at one point.

I still say making a living as a barber had to be a tough gig in the mid to late 70's.

    Sweet cards.

So much goodness! I'm a huge providence college fan, so the Barnes jumped out to me. Thanks for posting photos of the archibalds. Love the look of the Moses pose and the action shots of Bing, McAdoo and Free. The Kareem card is a classic. And as others alluded to, loving the 'fros!

Thanks for all of the comments!

In answer to some of the questions:

The vending box is the basic red/white/blue with the picture of the boy and girl that just says "Trading Cards". "500-count Vending Pack" up in the corner.

I also thought I'd get at least one 10 from the group, but I know these are really condition sensitive. Grading is so subjective and depends on the grader/day, so I may break some out and re-submit. Likely will split them up into a few complete sets and sell them off that way.

If anyone has interest, just let me know. Thanks!

The 76-77 set is a favorite of mine. I bought mine in
1985. How much are they going for now?

I think it varies greatly on condition, but seems to be in the $150-$300 range.

    Hi There,

After making sets out of the box and graded, I only have one extra left that's graded, which is an Erving PSA 7. Can do $35 dlvd gift on that. LMK if interested. Thanks!

Not sure I get the Groundhog Day joke......?

It's part of one of my sets, but I'd listen to an offer if it's a strong one. Thanks!
