AUCTION. This is for Mike's children. Auction CLOSED - Thanx!

I just want to see if we can raise a bit of dough for Mike's children.

image

This has moved so fast - I'm drawing off the way we held the last big auction.

Also, we can give a big shout out to Jackie from PSA for their most generous offering of SIX Platinum Memberships, the Promo's and some other PSA items!

Rules

1. Donate an item and we'll put it up.

2. Bid on any item that's currently up - and we'll keep doing updates so we can see who the high bidder is.

3. We will announce the Closing Date/Time and announce the winners by lot number.

Really simple!

Details will follow of when the auction will be over.

Anyone else want to jump in? Please do.

Thanx for your support.

Mike Kelley Fund

Here we go - like I said - I'll get back to you all as to when the auction - whether in part will end...

    Mike,

    Thanks for getting this started.

I have already received several inquiries about doing a fundraising auction to raise money for Mike's kids. Let's try to use this thread for that purpose, and add a new item every few days so that it doesn't get too congested. I can coordinate it if the forum would like. Just PM me what you are offering and every few days I'll add items in the order received.

Hopefully we can keep this going for a good long while, both as a tribute to Mike and as a way to continue helping his kids.

I guess people should post their bids to the thread, and we can set a "hammer" date/time for each item. Since you put up the first item, please propose the hammer time for it. If people send me what they wish to add I'll schedule a new to be added about every 2-3 days and that way we can have a perpetual Mike Kelley auction until the donated items run out (which will hopefully be a long time from now, if ever).

    How does that sound/

    Dave
  • I'm in for $20 on the Richardson.
And I will most def put up some cards to help in the effort.
I had a short pm thread with Mike and he seemed like a genuinely nice man.
I will do what I can to contribute.

    Hiya Paul

    Very generous.

I'm working out a detail with Dave.

I'm thinking you put it up with an end date - the high bidder pays and shows receipt thru the web and then you send the item to the winner.

Let's see how that works? If not. I'll be happy to run it like I did the other one for Jay in December.

I'm doing this as a preview for now.

I didn't get one of the memberships....

But Jackie did give me a numbered "Promo" set #67/500 - that will go up for auction - I think that's cool!

edit: it turned out I was one of the winners - I'm holding off on putting it up till I see how many lots we wind up having?

Could we leverage this thread for like a week to take in donations for bidding. Then start a new thread with the lots available for the bids themselves to keep everything clean?

I'm looking for something cool to donate.

While I never had the pleasure of working with Mike, I did win an EchoCanyon contest by remembering one of the cool threads Mike started around where your CU Name comes from.

Thanks guys for taking the lead on this.

    I'm open to any suggestions.

As you might guess, the last one I ran was logistically very time consuming - tho I didn't mind - since I do have the time.

We will run this auction into next weekend - closing Sunday?

No hurry - want to raise as much as we can.

Jackie just offered me a few other items that I'm putting together - like a PSA package - 1 T-shirt - 5 PSA stands and their recent book.

    Thanx everyone for our support.
    Mike
  • Thanks for organizing this guys. I've got 3 lots to contribute to help Mike's children:

    Thanx Jeff

This is gonna grow really fast - if I don't get input real soon, I'm gonna do the same thing I did last time...

Organize the lots into one page by number and have people bid on them and establish a closing time and then have people donate to the web - provide the proof to the lot donator and then they can send the items out.

Once again, CU is a generous place - a great community - we can be proud of.
    Mike
  • put me down for $200 on the Koufax PSA 4, but I may set a higher snipe bid image those are some really nice contributions for a really good cause. I'm always amazed at the generosity on this forum. I'm throwing in an '82 Topps BB wax box wrapped by BBCE. I'll let the guys decide when to let it hit the auction block.

    Very generous!

Having only run one large auction - this is taking off rather fast...

As a thought - I have no problem having people post their item as a preview - if you have a scan, that will help.

I'm gonna start listing the few items I have right now.
    Mike
  • Hi Mike.
I don't have much, but I have these (12) PSA 10 rookies that you can auction off as one entire lot.

It sure is, Mike. Time and time again the board has come together like this, despite some of the frauds who tried to take advantage of the board's generosity in the past, which makes it all that much more commendable.

Thanx again everyone for your generosity.

It just makes me think about how fragile life is.

And how important it is to "not" take life for granted.

Our hobby has relative importance as an integral part of our lives, but it's "not" life. Life's about "us" - about people.
    Mike
  • I would like to donate some auction items as well. Please PM or send an address where to send items.

Please just put up on item or 2 which people will bid on - at the end of the auction - after we confirm the donation - we will have that person contact you with an address to send the item.

Still would like to see this thread turn into the thread that never ends, but however the community wants to do it I am 100% in favor of.

    Hiya Dave

These things have a way of moving fast.

Please PM me - if it gets large? I would like someone to start a 2nd auction later on?

But, also - I would like someone to track the bids with me. Last time I started a list of lots and then updated it and cut and pasted it on later pages so people can follow how the auction is going on a day to day basis.

$100 on lot 3, 84 topps wax box

I'll also try and find something decent to donate.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the initiative all, this is a truly tragic event that, simply, isn't fair.

From my talking with Mike, I can gather 2 things: he loved himself some wax, and he knew that we took ourselves a bit too seriously on here at times. In that spirit, I just busted open a 1989 upper deck low number case, and will offer up 5 boxes here (separate lots). They can come with or without the Miklia FASC guarantee. image

  • I will bid $100 on the 79 wax tray and $70 on 1 89 upper deck box.

  • Have they taken steps to liquidate Mike's collection? The way he talked on here, it seemed like it should be worth well over $100k. Hopefully you guys can help his parents get top dollar for his collection, since his kids will need financial support more than old cardboard.
  • Please put me down for $300 on Lot #4.

    Thank you.

    Lot# 16 --> I will bid $40.

Mike, thanks for putting this together. While I did not know Mike Kelly, he obviously touched the lives of many here in a huge way.
  • Mike,

Thank you for stepping up, once again, to rally the community.

May I suggest you add a short description to the lot numbers given I expect (hope!) this thread grows quickly?

I believe this will help reduce the amount of time potential bidders have to spend scrolling back and forth... and make people more inclined to participate.

I imagine this will help you save some time as well in updating current bids.

    Mike,

Yup... adding a description to the lot list with current bid amounts that you keep updating.

For example like you have done with the first few lots... i.e. Lot #1 - 63F Richardson - PSA 8.5 - $20 - Arex

    Working on it right now.

I thought about it - since many don't reference a lot # and just give the description.

    Thanx!

edit: found that I did it this way last time. image

  • This is really a great thing that everyone is doing here. One other quick thought as I have not utilized youcaring.com before. Does the site end the campaign if the goal is reached? If so, should someone ask the organizer to increase the goal to a very large amount to ensure all donations can be made should this auction get rather large, which we are all hoping for? Btw, I'll try to get some scans up by Sunday to add to the mix.

The goal has changed a couple of times already.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

    NOTE:

I added the auction update to the OP along with it floating around - tomorrow we will have a separate thread for the auction update where people can add their bids - this will make it easier to see what's going on - one can still post on the OP tho.
