Anyone actually grow those Ginter Flora cards?

I have an extra set of 5 (damaged) Flora cards and was thinking of buying a few pots and planting them.

Did anyone else actually plant them?

Those cards are the manure for the flower cards.

And we have some action - judging by the area, I'm assuming this will be the Mexican Hat

Well, looks like these are 2 different ones growing now that they've gotten a little bigger. Must be the Mexican Hat and the Shirley Poppy

are you sure those aren't weeds. The plants should grow directly over where the cards were when you planted them =p

I doubt they're weeds but who knows what angle they're gonna grow out when they're embedded in a card LOL

I suppose I can dig in a little bit and see where the roots are - maybe I'll do that tonight.

I think the one on the right might be pot.

    You're under arrest.

Based on the pictures i am guessing that is catnip not potting soil......based on that assumption the mexican hat might be a little wacky tobacky. Like he said, hands up you are under arrest image

I really think they are both weeds. I'm just too lazy to look them up.

ETA: One on left is Common Lambsquarters

One on right is a smartweed I think

As a field biologist with over 20 years experience, I have to say sorry, weeds.

The one on the right is purple ladies thumb - Polygonum persicaria

    image

Not 100% sure what the one on the left is. Early guess is Henbit, purple dead nettle, or spotted touch me not. Give it another week.

is it normal for weeds to grow right out of bagged potting soil? Maybe cause I bought the cheap stuff?

    That sucks LOL

I'm gonna definitely dig these up tonight to see where the roots are

  • Options
It's normal for weed seeds to be everywhere. It's not abnormal for the weeds to have popped up several weeks after your initial planting.

Called mixing yard dirt with the potting soil.

The weed on the left grows in abundance in our flower beds.

no yard dirt at all in there - just the 2 bags of potting soil

Yanked out the weeds and dug around a little bit for what's left of the cards. Didn't feel anything so rather than chance disturbing anything, I stopped.

Oh well, maybe I should research the flowers a little and see if they're even supposed to grow this time of year
  • Options
so none of the flora cards grew? I like the idea of the cards

nothing else has popped up since pulling the weeds out. haven't been checking like I did at first and when I checked last week, the whole thing was flooded. Maybe I killed them all - I dunno. Some of them might not grow till certain times of the year too maybe. Still holding out hope.

    LOL - far from it

If these turn out to actually be something, I'll clean it up and baby them a bit. If not, off to the woods it goes.

Can't believe it's been over a year since I started this

I don't know a lot about plants, but the one on the right in the 2nd pic looks a lot like one of the weeds that grows between the pavers in my driveway!

The two on the right are definitely weeds. I pull the identical ones out my landscaping and yard all of the time. They're fairly easy to pull out and leave a sticky residue on your hands.

This is thread of the decade material. Zep, you can't give up now. I don't think anyone has mentioned yet how fitting it would have been if tobacco was the "chase" flora card, seeing as it played such a prominent role in the evolution of cards.
