Hi Everyone,

Here are links to most of my articles along with my comments which are online. Most are here on the forum and one or two are on other sites. As always, comments are welcome, as well as idea’s for future articles …. I’ve got several things laying around here, some nearly finished, others just a few notes. Watch the forums, as I will always put a message up when I publish another article….

US patterns- A beginners guide (Published 06-07-2004)
This is the essay that started it all. Written 20 months ago when I was 15, when I started writing this I knew virtually nothing about patterns. When it was finished, I knew the basics)

United States Patterns for Silver Commemoratives (Published 08-01-2004)
My first more specialised article. Altough not complete, it gives a nice overview of some commemorative half dollar patterns. At the time I wrote this, I only had the Judd book so it’s not complete as there are more things mentioned in the Pollock book. This article was originally published here on the forums, and now can be enjoyed with links to more information and pictures on uspatterns.com

It was then silent for a couple of months until early 2005. I then wrote an article called “Collectible US pattern sets”, which was originally published on Rick Kay’s site, patterncoins.com, but the site doesn’t seem to be online anylonger. The article will soon be re-published here, with some necessary edits…

Including a pattern in a regular series collection –Educational pattern post #1 (Published 07-06-2005)
I then started an education series of posts here on the boards about patterns, although now only 2 are published. The first one is about putting a pattern in a regular series collection, to show for example how the design changed during the time it was a pattern. I was quite happy about the article itself, as it showed the things that I learned during the year.

The 1856 Flying Eagle Small Cent –Educational pattern post #2 (Published 07-18-2005)
My second and so far last educational pattern post on these forums. Giving my opinion about a coin collected as a regular issue, although it was a pattern. Actually, and that’s the most funny part about the whole thing, it is the most common pattern ever made, even when the prices suggest other things.

Educational study: Rarity Analysis 1901 VS 1904 Double Eagles (Published 08-04-2005)
Actually written on one boring, summer night after looking at several 20th century Liberty Double eagles (My favorite coin series, though I still don’t own any. Definitely need to change that), this article is in my own opinion, one of the best, even when it isn’t about patterns. It could about most coin series, where people always tend to buy the most common coin for their type collection. This article proved it can and should be different.

An introduction to Gobrecht Silver Dollars 1836-1837 (Published 01-16-2006)
My latest article so far. This was written somewhere early 2005, but I never reviewed or published it. I did to commemorate my 4000th post here on the forums. This article is one of my most researched ones, as I did quite some study for it.

Pardon my ignorance on publishing and copy right law, but how does "publishing" an original work on a private forum work?

I believe the user agreement states that PCGS has reprint rights to anything posted. Does that preclude an author from having his article published in a hobby publication or book of his own at a later date? Also, are your posted articles actually considered "published" and legally protected from plagiarism and republication in print media by another author?

Thanks.

RJ
