I like seeing the players' helmets on football cards, because, well, it's fun to look at old helmets. But of course if a player is wearing his helmet, it covers his face. And sometimes that pesky facemask gets in the way and makes the guy look downright dopey.

So I like the pose where the player is sitting and holding his helmet. Then you get to see both of them.

According to Wikipedia, he was born in 1939, so he's just 27 or 28 in that pic. Man, hard living back in the day, huh?

HAHAHA ... I was thinking the same thing as soon as I saw that card. 27 or 28? WOW!

It was tough having to recently sell almost my entire collection of ~1,700 PSA graded cards from the 1910s - 1970's and my ~250 - 300 Graded Packs from the 50s, 60s and 70s. But when your daughter AND your wife are diagnosed with Cancer, sometimes you don't have a choice. One day I'll get some of them back!

Great looking cards Mike, I gotta admit I never really took much observation about cards showing the team emblems on the helmets. Great stuff!

Okay, since you guys seem to like 'em, here are a few more. (I didn't notice until now that most of the Packers in the 1969 Topps set are in this pose.)

Here's a weird one. It's a 1961 Fleer card, but Jamison's helmet doesn't match the Oilers helmet shown at the Helmet Project for 1961. Anyone know if the Oilers actually used the helmet on the card? Or might Fleer have recolored it?

Here's the helmet worn in 1961, according to the Helmet Project. This page shows all the Oilers helmets. (You have to scroll down.)

That jersey looks airbrushed to me, so the helmet probably was too.

One of my favorite helmet "cards" is the 1938 matchbook for Dutch Clark

You might want to change the wording on the main title.
